Toilet Training

At Toptotz, we understand that potty training is a big milestone—for both children and parents! Our team is here to support your child’s journey with patience, encouragement, and consistency.

Our Approach

We follow a child-led, positive approach to potty training that respects each child’s readiness and emotional comfort. We work closely with families to ensure routines at nursery complement those at home.

  • Readiness First: Although not all children will show ‘readiness signs’, we do sometimes look for signs that your child is ready—such as staying dry for longer periods, showing interest in the toilet, or communicating their needs.
  • Partnership with Parents: We’ll discuss your child’s progress and work together collaboratively. Consistency between home and nursery is key.
  • Routine & Encouragement: Children are gently encouraged to use the potty or toilet at regular intervals. We celebrate successes and never shame accidents.
  • Practical Support: Our staff are trained to assist with toileting in a respectful and hygienic way. We use age-appropriate language and offer lots of praise (We have sticker books at the ready!).

🧼 Hygiene & Comfort

We maintain high standards of cleanliness and ensure children feel safe and relaxed during toilet time. Spare clothes and wipes are always on hand, and we encourage independence while offering help when needed. We ask that you provide plenty of spare clothes in addition to what they would normally bring.

👨‍👩‍👧 Working Together

We welcome your questions and updates. Whether your child is just starting or nearly there, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

If it becomes clear that a child is not ready we will encourage parents to hold off and try again at a later date. Forcing this can knock confidence and sometimes even cause a regression.
